Hargos van het Wantij achieved the highest ratings for courage and hardness at his Körung 'for life' in 1993 (as did his sire Hertog Alpha van Le Dobry in 1985) and passed the ZTP with the top grading of V1A. Ottmar Vogel, DV Kör-Meister, ZTP and schutzhund judge, described Hargos as possessing above average working drives, very good nerves and above average hardness. He found Hargos to be an uncomplicated dog that showed no aggression or other problematic behaviour when corrected and was not gun shy nor handler sensitive. Hargos lived to 10 years of age and tested clear for PHTVL/PHPV. “This black male was bred in Holland. He is medium sized with a good head. Hargos is a strong male with a powerful underjaw, a good neck, excellent chest, strong bones, good angulation and stands correctly. His movement is good. He was very successful at the shows. When he was just two years old he became Bundessieger (1988). In 1990 he won the French Dobermann Champion show and also the IDC-title. One year later he won the World Champion title at Dortmund and became best of breed. Hargos is a Dutch, German and International Champion. His character is very good and he passed his IPO III exam with ease. He also passed the Körung with good result. He received for courage and hardness a very high score like his grand father Nicolai vom Kloster-Kamp. Hargos is an outstanding sire and one of the best descendants out of the Hertog Alpha line. He transmits his excellent chest and strong bones. His hereditary power demonstrated itself in his progeny. He became a very popular stud dog and the sire of many Champions.” [by J.M. v.d. Zwan: In the beginning.....A history of the Dobermann] “Hargos - A male strong in character and conformation This article is a tribute to one of the best descendants out of the very influential Hertog Alpha van Le Dobry line called Hargos van het Wantij. This square black male was bred in Holland in 1986 out of the well-known kennel "van het Wantij" owned by Mr Jaap van Gelder. The year 1986 was a good year for the breed. It brought us several dogs, mostly valuable for their beauty, but only Hargos had the power of transmitting his valuable traits for the International Dobermann breed. Hargos was born out of the combination Hertog Alpha van Le Dobry x Esmir van Hermansjomaik, two dogs not only well-known for their excellent working qualities but also for their conformation qualities. Both dogs were criticized and sometimes penalized for their broad and strong head type. Esmir was especially criticized for her masculine head but despite this Esmir became a World Champion (1985 Amsterdam) and in that same year D.V. Siegerin, she also got her Dutch, International and German Champion titles. Esmir was a daughter of two "Angekört" dogs. Nicolai vom Kloster-Kamp, a medium-sized dog, was well-known for his excellent working qualities and Bonita van Rensloo who was a dynamic bitch with self-confidence and a lot of courage and hardness (Bonita was a litter sister of Baron Cecar van Rensloo). With such parents it is clear that Esmir was a bitch with a wonderful character and an excellent temperament. Hertog Alpha van Le Dobry was a dog who put his stamp on the breed during the eighties and no one can ignore that he passed through his own type to the breed. He was a dog with an excellent temperament who passed the "Körung for life" with highest ratings for courage and hardness under the well-known working dog expert Mr 0ttmar Vogel. Hertog Alpha can be praised for improving the overall character of the breed and certainly has given the breed stronger nerves, more self-confidence and a higher protection drive. This is proven by the fact that a lot of his descendants have passed their Schutzhund III or IPO III titles or other tests like the "Körung". Hertog Alpha's sire Don Dayan vom Franckenhorst was not known for his working qualities but certainly had success in the showring. His dam Tanja van de Kunnemaborgh was the opposite of Don Dayan, conformation wise she was a moderate female but character wise she was a fiery bitch with excellent working qualities. It is clear that Hargos van het Wantij with such bloodlines got a lot of qualities. He was a medium sized-black male, slightly short on his legs (a legacy of his grandsire Nicolai vom Kloster-Kamp). His body was compact with a firm back, excellent chest, strong bones and an excellent shoulder assembly. His head was strong (which you would expect from these two parents) with excellent parallel planes and a strong underjaw. He was not always running smoothly in the showrings. His character was great which was logical with such a background. He passed his IPO III and Schutzhund III exams with ease. At the "Körung" he received the highest score 1A and achieved highest ratings for courage, self confidence and hardness. The experts spoke highly about his firm bite and his strong attack with a lot of self-confidence. He passed the "Körung for life". In the showring he was very successful. When he was just two years of age he became Bundessieger (1988). In 1990 he won the Belgian and the French Champion Show in Mauvieres and also the IDC title in Italy. One year later he won the World Champion title, as well as 'best of breed' and reserve 'best in Show', in Dortmund. Hargos was a Dutch, Luxembourgh, French, German and International Champion. He never became a D.V. Sieger although he was close to this title in 1989. The title was given by Mr 0ttmar Vogel to another son of Hertog Alpha van Le Dobry called Gringo vom Franckenhorst, also a dog who passed the "Körung" with highest ratings.” [from Dobermann Magazine No 3/98] Below is Hargos' most influential working litter and offspring:
